How to fix broken webcam from Windows 10 Anniversary update

Unfortunately there is no quick fix. This tweak involves modifying the Windows Registry. If you are not comfortable with editing Windows Registry please wait for Windows next update as Microsoft has said that a fix is in development.

Here are the steps to fix your broken webcam from Windows 10 Anniversary update:

  1. Open regedit from the Start menu.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
  3. Right click the Platform folder and select New > DWORD. Name it “EnableFrameServerMode”
  4. Right-click the new value and select “Modify”
  5. Enter “0” in the “Value data” field.
  6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
  7. Right click the Platform folder and select New > DWORD. Name it “EnableFrameServerMode”
  8. Right-click the new value and select “Modify”
  9. Enter “0” in the “Value data” field.
