Windows 10 officially announced, available on July 29

Finally the official announcement for Windows 10 has been made, the version of Windows that I have been waiting for will be available on July 29. This definitely will be the best Windows operating system since Windows XP. Most importantly it will be a free upgrade for all existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 customers.

If you like to use Google Now or Siri, Windows 10 are bringing their own digital assistance called Cortana. You can ask Cortana to search or questions. Not sure how well it can find the answer for you, but it should be a handy feature to have if you are too lazy to type 🙂

Check out the video below for the highlights for Windows 10.

What about Windows XP?

If you are still using Windows XP, I recommend that you should upgrade it to Windows 10. Microsoft no longer support Windows XP so you won’t be getting any security upgrades which will leave your PC/laptop to being vulnerable to virus, spywares or even be hacked. Depending on your computer/laptop’s age, you might not have the right specs to upgrade. If you are still using Windows XP, I suggest that you avoid internet banking or even going on Internet. Even storing highly sensitive information on the PC/laptop is not recommended.

These are specifications for a pre-released version of Windows 10 and are subject to change.

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 on your PC or tablet, here’s what it takes.

  • Latest OS: Make sure you are running the latest version either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 1024×600
